Safety Still Applies During The Holidays

Each year as the holidays near, we are reminded of all the wonderful reasons to work safely each day. We are also reminded of all the distractions that can lead to otherwise avoidable accidents. Travel plans, to-do lists, and holiday preparations occupy our thoughts in anticipation of the upcoming festivities. These distractions also create elevated accident risk in the workplace.

All these holiday mental distractions lead to inattention and complacency, which is why accident rates increase during the holiday season. That is why it is especially important to slow down and stay focused on critical tasks during this time of the year. By taking the extra few moments to plan and review each task, you can keep your mind focused and aware of your surroundings.

Alertness is also an important factor to consider, as lack of energy or alertness often results in slow reactions or overlooking common hazards. Adequate sleep, hydration, and a healthy diet can help prevent accidents resulting from drowsiness and fatigue.

Here are some other things to consider in addition to awareness of surroundings.

  1. Mental Distractions and Inattention
  2. Good Housekeeping
  3. Operating or Working in Proximity to Machinery
  4. Listening in Addition to Watching for Danger

We wish every member of the Sims Crane family a safe and joyous holiday season. By taking the extra time to review tasks, and eliminate outside distractions, we can make the holidays a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends.
