Huge Port Canaveral Crane Moves to New Berth

The largest mobile harbor crane in the United States is located in Florida at Port Canaveral and has been in service for two years. The crane was recently relocated to a new multipurpose berth called North Cargo Berth 8. NCB8 was constructed to accommodate up to 2,000 pounds per square foot loading capacity. It’s well suited to support heavy cargo lifts including rocket boosters and other space-related components.

A video of the crane’s quarter-mile journey can be viewed by clicking here.

The Liebherr LHM 600 stands 270 feet tall and weighs 1.19 million pounds. Its base features four separate motors to power thirteen axles and 104 wheels by remote control. Three-and-a-half inches of asphalt was added to Snapper Road to support the move, and the roadway was widened to thirty feet with an additional three feet on each side.

Space Coast Daily reported on this event. Additional information can be read at Port Canaveral’s website by clicking here.
