Tower cranes were used to build the One World Trade Center in New York, Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia, and many other impressively tall buildings around the world. Typically, tower cranes used in high-rise buildings, bridge, dam, shipyard and power plant construction projects are stationary cranes that are self-erecting or manually assembled at the job site, while the tower crane operator on the construction site is, ultimately, responsible for the safety of everyone on and near the jobsite.

NCCCO tower crane operator certification requirements include the following:

• 18 years of age or older
• Meet or exceed physical requirements
• Currently work in crane operation
• Successfully complete all training
• Comply with the Substance Abuse Policy
• Passing score on written exam
• Demonstrate operator proficiency on practical exam
