Construction is currently underway on the $22 million Doral Government Center in South Florida. The three-story 60,000 square foot center is being built on 1.8 acres at 8333 NW 53rd Street. Flagler Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of Flagler, is overseeing the multi-million dollar project. But Sims Crane is on hand to work for Bass Precast Erecting.
On a Tuesday morning, workers from the Georgia-based company are setting the outside panels for the building. CCO Al Franco is hunkered down in the cab of a 160-ton Kobelco crawler crane. 150 feet of boom supports the 5,000 lb. panels as he swings the pieces close enough to the building for workers to secure it in place.
Across the street, the current city hall stands at half the size. When completed, the new Doral Government Center will be a LEED Silver-certified building that includes a 250-space parking garage, an epicenter for cultural events, house a training facility, and be available for businesses to lease space. Construction is expected to be finished by spring of 2012.
