Sims Crane & Equipment presented The 2nd Baseman Inc., with a check for $4,400 at the 4th Annual Hoedown for Hooters this past Friday night.
Dusty Showers, founder of The 2nd Baseman, has been a breast cancer advocate since 2004. His first experience with the disease was when the grandmother of his daughters was diagnosed. Dusty and his family began participating in The Susan G. Komen 3-Day events and it was his participation at these events when Dusty discovered his passion. The mission of The 2nd Basemen, Inc. is to enrich the lives of both women and men diagnosed with breast cancer (and their families). They provide, financial assistance to help cover medical bills, family bills and enrichment.
In October of 2011, Sims Crane & Equipment joined the journey with thousands of others to fight breast cancer in unusual ways. The first of two pink cranes, the Mary Helen, was unveiled and dedicated to the Tampa Bay chapter of Komen, Komen Florida Suncoast. Sims Crane & Equipment pledged $100 every time the crane was rented to the local Komen Chapter.
In July of 2012, the second pink crane, The Gillian Elizabeth, was unveiled and dedicated to The 2ndBaseman Inc. The commitment continues with $100 from every rental goes to them to help accomplish their mission – to help provide short-term financial assistance to families affected by breast cancer in Florida.
