Some of the safety related-sessions scheduled include :
• Bringing Your Safety Program into the 21st Century – Robert Moore, NBIS, will moderate a panel that includes Alan Barnhart, Barnhart Crane & Rigging; Jeff Hammons, AmQuip; Bill Smith, NBIS; and Ted Lekawa, George Young Company. In addition to essential elements of a safety program, this session will highlight CSA crane load securement program; assembly and disassembly of cranes; OSHA standards and inspections; an update on B30 standards; and, real checklists and examples you can use in building your own company safety program.
• Developing Lift Plans That Work – David Duerr, P.E., 2DM Associates, Inc., will lay out what is needed to create a good lift plan that improves site safety and workers’ efficiency. The session will also examine how the rigging contractor can work with the owner/general contractors to ensure their lift plan requirements can be met in a timely manner.
• Making Sense of it All: Rating Charts, Overloading, Sideloading and Load Testing – Ron Kohner, P.E., Landmark Engineering Srv. Ltd., explores how the sheer volume of this additional information available on today’s newest mobile cranes makes it paramount that users be aware of the engineering basics and common misunderstandings associated with even the most simplistic rating charts.
• Preparing for OSHA’s Recent Climate Change – John Artz, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., and Tressi L. Cordaro, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., will examine the new OSHA enforcement environment – one with higher penalties and severe violator programs. The session will also include a discussion on managing an OSHA inspection and the key steps an employer should take before, during, and after an OSHA inspection.
• Crane Visibility - Sight Matters – Twan Pelders, Orlaco Products B.V., will explore the new tools available to crane operators that allow visibility of a load at all times. The session also will demonstrate how a vision system can increase safety, reduce damage and increase efficiency on your projects.
