Liebherr’s new heavy duty ‘P’ boom (Power Boom) system for its largest lattice cranes is now on test at its Ehingen plant.
The company’s flagship 3,000 tonne LR13000 is currently undergoing main Power Boom tests, while a heavy duty luffing jib and Power Boom combination is being tested on a 1,350 tonne LR11350 crawler.
Liebherr says that the increases in lifting capacities on the luffing jib are particularly impressive, because they benefit from both the increased torsion stiffness/cross section of the Power Boom along with the stronger, lattice section used in the heavy duty luffing jib.

In this combination the Power Boom uses standard luffing jib sections in the parallel twin boom part of its configuration, liberating the stronger main boom sections for use in the heavy duty luffing jib – thus doubling up the benefits for heavy lift duties.
