Liebherr has received the ICEF Construction Equipment Design Innovation Award for its PowerBoom capacity enhancement system. It was announced at the International Construction Economic Forum (ICEF) in the Netherlands last month.
The jury at the inaugural ICEF in Amsterdam made the award on the basis that the PowerBoom increases load capacity of large Liebherr lattice boom crawler cranes while being economical and flexible to use. It beat six other entries in the final selection for innovative components and systems for construction machinery on the market since January 2012. Max Kenzelmann and Roland Bohnacker from Liebherr-Werk Ehingen in Germany collected the award.
The PowerBoom increases the load capacity of large crawler cranes by more than 50 % at relatively low cost, Liebherr said. The lattice sections in the lower part of the lattice boom are doubled, parallel to each other, using adaptor pieces top and bottom, to increase the strength of the boom.
The International Construction Economic Forum (ICEF) is an international conference for the construction industry organized by IC sister magazine International Construction and publisher KHL Group. The next ICEF will be on 30 and 31 October 2014 in London, UK.
