Liebherr Builds New $66 Million Component Production Plant

Liebherr-Components Biberach has started building an additional plant in Biberach an der Riss (Baden-Württemberg) in Southern Germany. The $66 million development will manufacture switchgear as well as electric motors and generators - currently made at its existing factory in Biberach – which are to be relocated to the new site.

Measuring 36 acres, the site will initially have two 108,000 sq. ft. production halls with a 48,500 sq. ft. building - to include a showroom and communal facilities - and a 77,500 sq. ft. office building also planned. Plans also include a combined heat and power plant to cover the basic energy requirements for the production halls.

The new facility is scheduled to commence production by the end of 2014.  Liebherr-Components Biberach currently employs about 150 staff in this area who will move to the new site. The division is part of Liebherr Group's components division which develops and produces components for drive system technology such as large diameter bearings, gearboxes and rope winches, electric machines and switchgear. The division also has production sites in Ettlingen, Kirchdorf an der Iller and Lindau (Germany), in Colmar (France), in Monterrey (Mexico) and in Bulle (Switzerland).
